I am currently an Academic Writing Fellow for first- and second- year Health Systems Science at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). I am also completing my Masters dissertation in the field of Bioethics and Health Law which will argue for prioritizing mental health in Primary Health Care services in order to improve South Africa’s socio-economic development. In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology, and, in 2017, a Bachelor of Health Science Honours degree in the field of Bioethics and Health Law both from Wits. Her Honours research report is titled “A bioethical analysis of Climate Change: An Intergenerational Problem”. As part of the experiential learning component of my Honours degree, I worked at the Wits Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and the Wits Health Consortium (WHC). In that same year, I was elected as the Treasurer of the Wits Students Bioethics Society (WSBS), which provides guidance for students experiencing ethical and legal dilemmas within the Wits community. Furthermore, I was part of the team that compiled the “Summary Report on the First Roundtable Meeting on Organ Donation” which was held at the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics. In 2018, I was a Chief Invigilator at the Wits Examinations and Graduation Office and then started my journey as an Academic Writing Fellow for first year Wits Health Science students. In 2019, I completed my internship at Doctors Without Borders/MSF-SA in HIV advocacy. I love swimming, travelling, reading, writing, and eating and I am passionate about addressing access to healthcare, socio-economic empowerment and sustainable development on the African continent.

Hi there! My name is Christine and I am currently on the path to becoming an educational psychologist and registered psychometrist. I have a passion for education, psychology, psychometry and research. I also have a love for literature, poetry and film! I matriculated in 2015 with 5 distinctions, English being one of them, from Holy Rosary School (in Edenvale, JHB). I attended Holy Rosary School from Grade R to Matric. Since leaving school, I have been an English tutor both privately as well as for several companies, and I have also given study skills seminars in my time as a tutor. I was also a research design and analysis tutor during my Honours year at university. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a tutor so far - it is incredibly fulfilling to be able to help students reach their highest potential! I believe in the power of one-on-one assistance because I feel that every student learns differently and has different skills and strengths that might be lost in the hustle and bustle of the classroom. One-on-one assistance creates a space where those skills, strengths, and differences in learning can be used, developed and celebrated for maximum learning potential. I look forward to continuing my tutoring journey here with Turtlejar! I currently have three university qualifications, and am waiting to hear if I have been accepted to begin my fourth! I have been a student at the University of the Witwatersrand for the last five years, where I achieved my Bachelor of Arts degree, Bachelor of Arts Honours degree, and PGCE. In my undergraduate BA degree, I majored in Psychology and English. I then went on to complete my BA Honours degree in Psychology. Over the course of my studies, I discovered that my passion for psychology became focused on developmental psychology, children and education. After my Honours degree, I decided to complete my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) - I am now qualified to teach English from grade 7 through to Matric, as well as Life Orientation from grade 7 to grade 9. I am hoping to go on to complete my Psychometry practicum which will qualify me as a psychometrist, and then to complete my Masters degree and become a qualified educational psychologist (the ultimate goal!) While my career path is centered around psychology and education at large, the English subject will always hold a special place in my heart! I am delighted to be able to engage with it as a tutor, and to hopefully share my passion for the subject with potential students!
